...as found in my VC Aquatimer:

I wonder if anyone knows whether the large second hand is supposed to "sweep" smoothly, or "fast-tick" around the dial?

I ask because due to a few cosmetic faults (caused by general display cabinet wear and tear), my AD very kindly ordered me a brand new watch from Schaffhausen - whilst allowing me to keep hold of the original in the mean time - for around a month. I'm sure the first watch had a very smooth sweep to the second hand, whereas the hand on the new (and pristine!) piece I now have seems to have a more noticeable "jumpy" ticking motion - almost erratic.

Anything to worry about do you think? If any other owners of this cailbre have any observations, please let me know - maybe i'm getting paranoid in my appreciation of perfection! :-)

    Cheers
    Sam

All mechanical watches move with beats rather than smoothly. Your watch has 28,800 half beats per hour (8 per second) and if you look really closely you can see that although it's difficult to exactly count via eye and it looks a little jumpy.

    I wouldn't be concerned.

Thanks for your response Michael, I guess I'm worrying about nothing. Will keep an eye on the watch's accuracy over the next week or so just to check nothing untoward is happening there.

    Thanks again. Sam
