    Hello,

I am an happy owner ofa Portuguese Chronograph IWC since a few weeks.

On the bottom side of the watch I have a black "IWC" sign printed across the bottom.

Does anybody know what's this for ? authenticity ?

As I see many pictures of watches not having this mark, I was wondering why I have it.

Thanks in advance for any help.

You mean the removable sticker that every new watch is delivered with to protect the case in transit?

    Hello,

You're right ! It was so well sticked and slick that I couldn't even figure out it was a sticker !!

Ok, I admit a bit newbie on this one.

    Thanks anyway

    Greetings dim12,

Which Portugeuse Chrono did you get and what variation. 3714 or new Classic 3904 ?

Glad it worked out. Looking forward to a photo now, sans sticker.

Best to keep the sticker on as long as you can. That way you can avoid some unwanted scratches on the back case. And if you ever had to sell this there is some added value even if IWC print has started to disappear from the sticker. They easily last about six months to a year even with regular wear.

Piggybacking on Ray's excellent comments, it also indicates that the movement has not been accessed. Should it need to be sent in for warranty, it's a indication that nothing inside has been tinkered with and can "possibly" help rule out any customer inflected issues.

Personally, I always take the sticker off. I like the intended look of the case back, the feel of the metal, and peeling/disintegrating stickers aren't for me.

I've seen stickers taken off, saved and put back on. To me a sticker on the back proves nothing.

    Hello all,

Thanks to all of you for these answers.
I decided to take it off...

However I have 2 new questions : sorry for my technical english is not adapted....

    1) Setting minutes on seconds :
Is it possible to synchronize minutes exactly on seconds ?
I tried to set the watch to a specific minute et then press back the "roller" (trotle ? the wheel ? not sure of the name) exactly when the seconds arrived at 60 (reminder I hava a Chronograph with seconds in a specific display) in order to make sur it reaches the next minute everytime seconds reach the 60 index.
However, I notice that maybe I am not precise enough because afterwards, the minute is not exactly passed when the seconds come back to 60.
It seems that it reaches the next minute every time the seconds reaches 15.
Not sure if its clear ? Am I too meticulous ? maniac ?

    2) Rewind the trottle ?
Sorry but I don't know the words in English.
I read in the notice that its not bad to "rewind" manually the watch once in a while by turning about 20 times the trottle/roller.
When I say rewind, I mean turning the roller/trottle on the side.

My question is which way do I do this ? upwards with the trottle ?
I tried a bit but found it was a bit "resistant" and noisy. Is that normal ?

I never had an mecanical automatic watch so don't know where the "normal" and "unnormal" is.

    Thanks for any help.

I agree. As soon as I get something new, I have to remove all protective sticker type things. Doesn't matter what it is, I have to remove it.

dlm12, firstly congratulations and wear in good Health.

No harm done in removing the sticker - as MF writes, feeling the case back against the wrist is what it's all about.

As for being maniac...no, this is usual for first time (and again probably for each new watch) - enjoy being paranoid: ~) .....as for accuracy, dont worry about this yet at all (unless of course the time is totally out by minutes in a day - and it wont be).

Simply enjoy your new watch, and let it settle in over a couple of weeks and months. Then, if you are interested in seeing how accurate it is - set it using an internet atomic clock and check it over 24 hour period. If it's anywhere up to 7 seconds out - you are good.

Leaving the sticker on the case back eventually attracts dirt, which could case scratches to the metal. It also makes it difficult to wipe sweat build-up off the case back. If you want to keep the sticker, peel it away and place it on some kitchen grease proof paper on the shiny surface.
    Regards.
