Saw it today in one of the boutiques:

Could live withouth the "35 years of Ocean 2000", but think this should have been part of the collection from the beginning, definitely my favorite of the new ATs.

In the past IWC was a brand that was bought by lovers. They had beautiful classical lines with beautiful calibers. They still have nice calibers, although the most complex watches regularly show some cures.
There is little left over from the classical line of IWC, and the brand is nowadays not mainly bought by lovers.
In particular, I think the designs in the current collection are too anonymous and too slippery.
I have been in the museum in Switzerland for a year or three. They have made beautiful things in the past. Hopefully the brand recalls once again that deserve the fans of the brand.

You are certainly entitled to your own opinion. It is perfectly OK for you not to consider the current series of Aquatimers as elegant. However, just because it doesn't appeal to you doesn't necessarily mean it looks bad.

To me, they are elegant. I happen to think IWC managed to capture the old Porsche Design Ocean 500/2000 design, modernize it, and pack some ingenious-yet-practical functions into it (like a thin rotating external bezel that can be rotated in both direction, but can only adjust the internal rotating bezel if you turn it counter-clock-wise). People who are not in the know could not even tell that this watch has a rotating bezel. Show me another brand that has this design. This is what I called subtle elegance... a value that I think IWC watches even today continue to exhibit.

While it may look plain to you, I happen to like its look. To me, IWC has always managed to make the mundane looks classy. (hey, admit it, Pilots and Portugiesers' designs are so "plain" as well... but IWC manages to make the dials look so balanced and elegant to many). I consider myself an IWC lover, and I still buy IWC's. If I had not ordered a CF4 already, I would have purchased this Ocean 2000 35th anniversary edition in a heart beat.

    You nailed it Kelvin.

    I fully agree your sentiment.
