Rumor has it that there was a gathering recently in Schaffhausen. One person brought the classic 2005 Ingenieur, Ref. 3227, with its special ardoise dial as made for the limited edition Collectors' Forum Ingenieur.

Another person snuck out of the manufacture with the 2013 40mm Ingenieur, Ref. 3239. Of course, the temptation to take photos, comparing the two watches, was too much resist.

These exclusive photos were shot “in the wild”. As such, please excuse the quality, but I thought you'd want to compare the two models.

Thank you for sharing Michael! At the photos new Inge looks very nice and very classic. Waiting for a chance to see it "live".

    Michael,

Just what I needed. Now SIHH seems so far away and product availability forever.

I want one ! Where do I sign?

    Patiently waiting for now,

    Andy

Can someone confirm that the new 3239 Ingenieur will have a "micro-adjust" bracelet ?

Very nice comparison, thank you! I like that new Inge, very sleek, yet quite a forceful watch. Of course nothing beats seeing it as you did, from what I saw on pictures I opt for the black dial version, also easier to photograph.

I read here there is no micro adjustment feature, probably a "half link" to adjust at home, or at the hotel when on holiday.

    Kind regards,
    Paul

Wow, there appears to be a considerable difference in thickness - unless perspective is playing tricks. The crown guards are a nice addition to the new reference. Thanks for sharing, Michael. And thanks also to the anonymous photographer. :)

The "Baby Inge" looks very nice indeed. With an ardoise dial it's going to be hard to resist.

Andrew, I also like the way you seem to have dubbed this new model "the Baby Inge". Nothing wrong with babies - every family is entitled to have them:~)

Love the thinness. I wish the ceramic brown dial model would be available in something less than 46mm and at this thinness!

Thank you Michael! As I sit here wearing my 3227 I'm very interested in this one; the size looks like a nice change of pace, and it's a true Ingenieur.

    Andrew,

I don't believe it will be available with Ardoise, I hope I'm wrong because I would very much want one over black or white. Looking to add my first Ardoise.

I can't imagine this new Inge model not being a huge success- the designers have come back to the roots of the iconic original- and I applaud them for giving this model a true 'Ingenieur' status by including a Faraday cage!

Thank you Michael, the new Ingenieur looks great! I also notice the folding clasp has changed. Is the overall folding clasp thinner than the previous one?

    Kind regards,

Andy, the first modern IWC with a steel case and an ardoise dial is the 376706 AT Chrono Cousteau (w/steel bracelet just on my wrist as I type this) and a real beauty! I know this one is a very different style of watch but a real fantastic piece!

Roberto, actually the 2005 Ref 3227 Collectors Forum Ingenieur was considered to have an Ardoise dial, but it's not shiny-metallic like yours. Ardoise means "slate grey".

    Michael and Roberto,

A "Slate Grey" dial (slightly matted) on the new 40mm Ing would be perfect. I can only hope this would become an option. Regarding the AT Cousteau, yes Roberto I agree fully. It is a beautiful piece with the more "sunburst shiny" dial. My AD currently has one in stock and I try it on everytime I pay a visit. It surprises me it's still there. If not for my AT2000/white dial, it certainly would be on my wrist.

Ardoise and steel make a great variation. Hoping IWC offers more models/styles in this combination going forward.

    Happy New Year to all,

    Andy

I haven't realized the Ardoise dial of the CFI - possibly because I'm mainly a chrono guy. Anyway, the 376706 was widely available for the public while the CFI was not.
I would have chosen the 89361-driven AT over the ETA-Valjoux 7750-driven one, if there would have been a "cold blue" dial steel version with either a day-date or a simple full calender version. Mike, what are the odds on such a model? Even the new QP does not show the weekday - though a QP is out of my budget, even in a possible steel case...
