During my vacation, I had the pleasure of spending time with Winnie Ho, the always gracious Marketing and Communications Manager for IWC Asia Pacific, and Gary Soloveicik, IWC Flagship Boutique manager, a most affable fellow. I'd like to thank them both for such a wonderful time.

The whole Flagship boutique experience was great, although after trying the Spitfire flight simulator I guess I'll not try flying any real planes any time soon.

One of the photos I took can show, to some degree, how nice the new Santoni straps are, but honestly you have to handle them to realize just how nice they are.

    Nice shot, Nelson!

Every one of those three straps looks like pure class.

    Thanks,

My eyes are green with envy at your experience in HK. Your impression of the Santoni strap is similar to mine. It is something special.

Those are gorgeous! I would really love them to be available for a variety of lug sizes in the future. A Santoni strap would be perfect for my VC Ingenieur!

I know a couple of watches in my collection that would benefit from one or more of those gorgeous straps. Any idea what sizes they come in? (I'm talking the strap, not the watch).

not sure about the sizes, but they sure are pretty to look at :) here's a Jan posting by MF with another beautiful pic:

    Michael Friedberg has written:

Santoni as you may know is a artisan leather company in Italy, noted for its very high-end quality and specializing in shoes. You can read about them at en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Santoni.

The new Portofino Handwound uses straps made especially and exclusively by Santoni --they've never made watch straps before. IWC talked them into it! And they really are terrific as this candid photo shows:

    www.iwcforum.com/Articles/2011/SantoniStraps.jpg

To my knowledge these straps will be used on certain Portofino models and no other IWC lines. When I said to one person in product management "these are special --people will want them to retrofit on their other models", the response was "we know". I then asked whether enough will be in inventory and the reply was "we've ordered a lot; we hope so".

    Nice, really nice.

P.S. As before, this photo is exclusive here and for IWC. Please don't show it elsewhere or provide a direct link to it; thanks for your understanding.

Nelson, indeed great looking straps. When first I saw them at the SIHH in January, I too immediately recognized the fact that some of my collection would be heading for replacement straps!

    Thanks for sharing!

    Best regards
    Mark
