I have been wearing my ti aquatimer daily for about 10 years, love it. Today I checked the sapphire glass with a 4x loupe (my aging eyes can't focus anything closer than half a meter!) and noticed several scratches. Real scratches.
Truthfully, I never reserved any particular care for my watch and over the years it certainly sufferend endless impacts against concrete walls or metal objects.
I am thinking about someday sending it to IWC for a case and bracelet blasting and... glass polishing? Is this possible? Thank you

It's easier and probably less costly to replace the glass than polish it. Sapphire has a Mohs hardness of 9 but diamond micro-abrasion polishing cloths are harder and can be used.

It is likely your crystal has an anti-glar coating applied to it, and the scratches are in the coating rather than the sapphire. Polishing it will removing the coating. Unless you like that look, a new crystal will solve your concern.

Thanks Michael, it has no AR coating (it's the latre nineties AT) and indeed it is scratched, but the scratches are barely visible to the naked eye and I don't mind, no way I'm going to replace it, because it would cost a fortune and I would eventually scratch the new one as well.
It was more out of curiosity, one day I'll have the case and bracelet overhauled, it would have been the chance to polish the glass.
I used to believe it was not scratchable, now I know it's more vulnerable than I believed it was.

Polishing is possible, especially if you use varying grades of diamond paste.

If your watch is due for a service anyways, a sapphire replacement may not be that expensive. I sent in my 3227 recently, and the sapphire was a lot cheaper than I thought (not much more than $100). That was quoted in addition to the cost of the full service and polish, of course.
