I think that your not far off the mark with your comment referring to warranty/repair work on a grey import Bill. I'm currently on holiday in Japan.
I trolled some of the watch shops in Tokyo hoping to find the bargain IWC of the century, and did come across a new IWC big pilot 5004-01 complete with box, warranty card and all the books. The watch and the warranty card looked very authentic, and I had no reason to think otherwise,as the watch shop looked legitimate, and it is in the centre of Tokyo. The warranty card however, carried no AD name and no serial number on the non-face side, this got me a bit concerned.I asked the salesman if there would be any problems with warranty repair work in Australia,he asked another colleague, who reported that this wouldn't be an issue. I got them to hold the watch for me until the next day. In the interim, I sent an email explaining all that I'd encountered,to the IWC customer service centre in Sydney.Briefly they said that although the watch may be genuine, and I thought that is was,the omission of any verifiable proof of an AD and the lack of a serial number on the watch, was alone enough for IWC not to honour any warranty repair work. With that information,I returned to the shop, and politely informed the staff the reason Why I couldn't make the purchase, which was a pity, because if everything had have been in its rightful place,I would have been one fortunate owner of a BP.
I'm indebted to Claire Kelly at IWC in Sydney for her invaluable assistance.
Regards.
Kenneth.
