The position of the date window disturbs the dial design.
One thing is wrong.
Either the movement is too small
Or the case is too big
Less could be more :-)

In your proposal, I would put the date a fraction more to the left.
I wonder about different sized date wheels for a movement. As the date wheel is on top, not needing to touch anything, why aren't different sized date wheels used to accomodate the design of the watch? You would think that a margin of 1 or 2 mm should be possible, that would make a huge difference. Maybe a broad date wheel is the right solution, where the diameter of the circle of the printed numbers is flexible, delivering the desired result.
Kind regards,
Paul
well, they already had it once...
Sure, but I would prefer without date and hand wound.
That was the ORIGINAL concept.

MK 11 is very nice and desirable, of course, but I'm actually partial to MK IX ZS - maybe we could call it a "pre-concept" :)

Thanks JiiPee for this info. Pity the new movements couldnt be used, a lot of brands are stepping in with proprierty developed movements and i was heappy to read last year IWC has 2 new families in the pipeline for entry levle models. Mark 18 would have been a great first.
Any idea`s to why ? wasnt production ready yet ?
Guys are you 100% positive that IWC uses Sellita movements? I know that they are allmost the same (if not THE same) as ETA, but it seem kinda odd.

There’s a lot to like about the new pilots but I have to agree with this point. And it would be a deal breaker for me. On a watch like this with a not very exciting movement, the case, dial and bracelet/strap need to be great to justify its price. Sadly and surprisingly this is not.

The discussion about the position of the date on the Mark XVIII seems, as I experienced in Geneva, of a rather theoretical nature to me.
Just by judging from the pictures I shared the desire for a date positioned closer to the outer rim. Standing before the real watch at the IWC booth gave me a totally different feeling, I did not have any bad feelings about this detail. The watch is really beautiful in the flesh.
And keep in mind, that this is -if at all- just a point at the LPP Version, the watches with black and white dials have a date in matching colors, so this should not be a concern there.
I have to say I really liked the LPP edition a lot.
Thank you Tonny:)
Cheers!
