Need a little help from my friends :-)

I could buy an Ingenieur Mission Earth from an established jeweler in town. He took the watch from a good customer of him in commission.
The ME has been bought Nov.2006. The jeweler (no AD for IWC but for other famous brands) has opened the watch and says that it is in very good condition. The watch had no service till now.
The big advantage to me is that this ME is a little smaller (42mm instead of 46mm)and so it would fit my slim wrist better than the bigger one.
To trust the jeweler is no problem.
What do you think - what is your experience in such situations. No problem such a purchase or better hands off? If I would buy it - is a service by IWC needed very soon?
Thanks a lot for your help!

    Regards, Lutz

If the price is right, it is a no-brainer. I'd wear it as is for a while and check it is running right, then if all is fine, I would send it for a Spa session at Schaffhausen within 6 months.
Hard to go wrong with a ME. It is a future classic if not already one.

I am far away from being an expert and please correct me if I'm wrong but was there ever a Mission Earth in 2006, and smaller than 46mm? You wouldn't have the possibility to post a picture?

I believe it is a ref.3227 or a variant, since Tom is right, no Mission Earth models existed back in 2006, a photo would sure help a lot.

    Yup, I was wrong.
Climate action and 3227 are smaller. Mission earth is 46mm.

Here the picture I took - the dial is not really blue - it is black.

I`ve been with the dealer an hour ago and told him what I am ready to pay. He called his customer and this is asking for much more than I am ready to pay.
So probably I will not take it. I wanted to deduct the price of the next service which I have to pay probably soon because he did not make a service on the watch at all. And it is older than five years.

This is a 3227 Ingenieur, an IWC with many admirers. It is a durable and dependable IWC.

    The 322701 is T H E classic Ingenieur.
Once you have it, you never want to miss it anymore.

I concur with Bill and CEM, a classic watch, an icon already but a bit too small for my taste, the Mission Earth (46mm )is calling...Anyway, if you can afford the watch, re-think the decision and even with a spa treatment necessary in near future you will enjoy the Ingenieur for a very long time...value for money!

    Hi Tom
Thanks for your contribution. The question is (in this particular case)not so much whether I can afford the ME but whether it fits my wrist.
My left wrist - where I wear my watch - measures 17 cm (6.7 inches) in circumference. And I don`t like it, when the watch is taller than my wrist.
Then I get such a feeling one has when he sees a little boy who wears fathers big watch - much to tall for him. Another good picture for it is the little girl in her mothers much too big high heels.
I hate the pitying smile of people seeing a much too big watch on my wrist.

But I love the Mission Earth too - and I will try it on my wrist and I will see.

Lutz, this definitely calls for a visit to the IWC Boutique here in Schaffhausen. Feel free to let me know when you have plans, so we could meet and chat Ingenieurs...

    A happy end

    Hi to all
Last week I met Tom in the IWC Boutique in Schaffhausen - a tremendous experience with all those great timpieces! I loved it a great deal. Thank you Tom!
I learned that the Mission Earth is not only a great looking watch - it is a mighty timepiece too and the ss bracelet makes it even more massive.
So when I left Schaffhausen again I had some doubts about the size: too big for my wrist or not????
On my way back home I passed Winterthur (another town) and so I made a stop there an visited the local AD for IWC. He showed me the ME, the big Ingenieur and some more and I felt again: too big, too mighty, too massive for my wrist. I told him and he went out and came back with a smaller watch - an Ingenieur Automaic AMG in titan.
It looked so beautiful - it was love at first sight - and it fits my wrist perfect. And so the story came to a happy end at least and here I may introduce my new watch to you.

    Regards, Lutz

ps. It looks pretty tight around your wrist. Are there half connection links included?

Christoph, there are no half connection links included but I have 2 and 1/2 connection links left.
Yes it is pretty tight but I don`t like it slack around my wrist. May be I have to add a half connection link in summer.
