    sigh

Today my AD called me up and told me that they had finally received my new strap and folding clasp. I have had a lot of trouble with that order; First they lost my order, then it turns out that they ordered the wrong strap, and finally it was delayed and took an entire month.

I went downtown to pick it up, but with all the trouble involved I asked to check the contents first. Naturally, it was the wrong strap, the very strap I had asked them to replace with the correct one 2 weeks ago.

I'm getting a bit desponded by all this.

    I hesitate to admit this...

...but I actually understand that, when vendors make a small mistake, they may end up feeling that they then "owe me one". I'm almost always then ahead of the game :)

    Good luck,

    They called me again today...

They called me again today, like they said they would – but with one slight modification. The call did not come from the back office staff that normally handles the orders (and know watches), but from the same girl I talked to yesterday (who told me she normally works in the jewellery section). The message was that the strap I showed them in the catalogue wouldn't fit my watch and that the strap they tried to give me yesterday was the shortest strap available for the portuguese chronograph...

Well, I knew that. When I talked to them yesterday I pointed out a da vinci strap in the catalogue as an example of what makes a strap for folding clasps different than other straps, since the girl had no idea what I was talking about and I hadn't memorized the reference number of the strap I wanted.

It was not simply the matter of my normal strap being too long, it was primarily a matter of shifting the folding clasp from the side of my wrist to the bottom of it so the thing wouldn't be so extremely uncomfortable! I thought I had made that clear, but apparently she didn't take it all in.

(Yesterday she actually suggested I should use the erroneous strap with the folding clasp, but to wear it looser in order to avoid the uncomfort and the weird bulge that appeared on the outer side of my wrist. In the nicest manner possible I promptly replied:

[i]"If you had just ordered a pair of designer jeans that you knew would fit perfectly, just as costly as this strap and clasp, but then received a pair that not only made you look deformed, but also physically hurt you... Would you appreciate the clerk asking you not to button them?"[i]

She laughed. The analogy made the penny drop and she stopped trying to force the issue.)

On the phone I proceeded to explain the problem once more, and this time I gave her the reference number for the correct strap. She stated that they would order it immediately and I got a severe case of deja vu.

Why do I get the feeling that the next time I go there I will need to explain to them that I don't need two identical straps for folding clasps and that I never asked for the regular one in the first place? Of course, by then they will have lost the folding clasp I ordered and the whole thing will start over.

    this might help

    hi bjorkis,
i know from the forum that this has been going on a while and thought this might help.
i asked my dealer today to order a new strap and deployment clasp for my port chrono.
she told me straight away that i don't need a new strap as the deployment clasp fits the old strap.
could you not just order the clasp?
she also brought out the AD IWC catalogue and made sure she had the right one. does your dealer order from the dealer catalogue?
