Today the new VC Portofino arrived at my AD. I am impressed by the size and beauty of the dial. I don't have any other 46mm IWC's and this one is impressive. Fortunately, it fits on my wrist very nicely. I had not seen the Portofino live before today and I am duly impressed.

It landed at my AD only yesterday and I got the phone call last night. I wrote a check immediately and it is mine. I have to wait a couple of days for it to be mailed across state lines so I can only post this picture which I hurriedly took in the AD. Sorry for the poor shot.

I will post a review and more photos with a better camera next week. Until then, I am a very happy camper.

Congratulations, and why don't you have it yet?

It looks great, I can imagine you like it, certainly when it fits your wrist.

If you wrote the check, and you were able to take the picture, why couldn't you take it instantly with you? That must have hurt...

    Kind regards,
    Paul, wearing Saint Exupéry Chrono

    Tax planning.

the US does not have a VAT tax. The sales tax varies by state, so with some careful planning, you can manage the tax impact by shipping to a no or low tax state. I shipped to my daughter who lives in a nearby state. I will pick it up from her over the weekend.

    Congratulations Bill!

Stunning watch! By the way, I also have an idea for the tax thing: couldn't you have just shipped the box and leave the AD with the watch on your wrist?

    Kind regards,

    Clemens

Congratulations, Bill. The first to hit the Forum

Are you sure it doesn't have "Made for Rave' engraved on the rear crystal? I am sure you'll enjoy it. If you don't, drop me an e-mail and I'll cancel my order. I suspect we'll both be flashing Portofinos when we next meet.

    Warmest regards,

    Ralph

    For those overseas...

All US states have a "use tax" which covers the situation where goods are shipped from out of state. Of course, no state has the resources to enforce this. Thus...tax planning.

    I need to be clear,

I am not advocating avoiding a state sales tax. I do pay what is required from the receiving state. I just look to minimize, legally the impact. If one state has a 8% sales tax and the receiving state's tax is 5%, I will gladly pay the 5% and I do.

I am in no way encouraging anyone to break the law.
