    Hi All,

I've been on the forum for a while now but so far I have mainly been reading.
I collect Portugieser watches however I have a gap in my knowledge... hence the questions below. Could any of you help me???

Does anybody have any pictures of the Portugieser Chronograph Rattrapante with the see-through caseback. All I know is that it was a limited edition and I believe there were only 100 pcs produced.

    • Does anybody have any pictures of this watch?
    • Does anybody know if this watch has a number x/100 engraved in the case?
    • What color do the two central stopwatch hands have?
    • Was the reference IW3712-07 like all other "normal" Portugieser Chronograph Rattrapantes?

Thank you all in advance for your help.

    Merijn

I believe the base movement is ETA and the Split Second function is made by Richard Habring while he worked for IWC.

    Kind regards,

    Hi All,

First of all thank you all very much for your reactions...
I have one more question on this, does anybody know whether IWC can check the authenticity of a watch if you provide the case and the movement number???

    Thank you all in advance.

    [quote=Perlmutt]Hello Merijn,

Just a few pics of mine,.......

Now, that's real nice with a sapphire case back - so sorry for you, that you miss a factory engraved serial number on it though .....I know you tried.

    Servus Mark,

    Thx for your compliment and

yes I tried in vain, but in the end I understood why it is not possible due to fact that there would be the possibilty of making a second watch with that same number.
Mr. Böhmer (really great guy!!!) at Schaffhausen proved the sapphire case back on my last visit there and stated that it is origin and ended with the words:
"I even can tell you who made it"

It is now my (better my wifes’ ;) ) personal special edition without engraved serial number but with two case backs.
    (two out of two) :) :) :)

It was made for the 130th anniversary of IWC back in 1998. A 3713 Doppel, SS w/ White dial and blue sub dials, red & blue split second hands, and 3712 Portugieser Rattrapante SS w/ display back & red & blue split second hands again were made for this event for the Japanese market only. (Don't ask me why!)

The 3713 were serialized on the side of the case xx/130 but the no limited edition number were engraved on the 3712.

Here's a picture of my duo:

... as you can see the typical red and blue split second hands.

    Hi Regulateur,

Thanks a lot. Indeed, I haven't seen another one surface for a few years now. It's one of my most prized pieces.

    Wear yours in good health!

I understand those to be made for the Japanese market specifically, there is one being offered without B&P and has some oxidation at the 4th quadrants inner rim, the slip seconds hands are red and blue.
