At a different watch forum I saw the Portuguese 8 Days Handwound as a limited edition for the 150 year anniversary. To resurrect this beautiful, beautiful discontinued watch is the best news I saw from SIHH. With its blue hands, it looks fantastic!
I wonder: is it also coming back as a regular model? That would double my joy about this beauty.

Yes. A time only (or time plus date, if absolutely necessary) Portugieser should always be part of the collection.
They got it almost right, but apparently they were not looking closely enough the proposal I made here about a year ago, as they missed some of the blue elements :)
I assume most visitors to the SIHH have returned home safely. I wonder if they have heard about plans on the Portuguese 8 Days Handwound: was it just revived for the 150 years anniversary? That would be quite an exceptional idea, the blast of the past. Or are there plans to make some new regular versions of this beauty? To me, this watch would take a place of honour in the Portuguese catalogue. Thank you for an answer!

This is the BFI edition, correct?
The BFI edition had a silver dial. The quick and dirty photo editing I did was meant to show how it would look with a white lacquered dial.
One of my favorite pieces in the 150 years collection!
So actually it is back and we will see what else might come as handwound portugieser.

A few days ago I got an answer from IWC via their Facebook site: is this becoming their prime outlet for news? A pity I didn't see an answer at this forum.
The vital part of their answer was, quote: "This new collection of the Portugieser is a limited edition for the 150 Years of IWC Schaffhausen. We cannot assure that this specific model will be renewed, as this up to the manufacture.".
So, it is not sure whether this watch will return. Maybe it depends on the success of the anniversary version.
I hope that those that went to SIHH can tell a bit more about the huge and interesting collection for this anniversary. I remember the heated discussions here about the six models of the Vintage Collection ten years ago. At least to me this Portuguese 8 Days Handwound is the highlight of the collection. Quite fitting: after visiting SIHH ten years ago the Portuguese of the Vintage Collection proved to be my favourite too, in the end I bought two versions of it.

The lacquer dials of the Jubilee Collection are rather striking and for me, the clear winners are the Portofino Moonphase and Portugieser Chronograph and 8 Days.

Got a question about handwound movements..
i recall reading an article that says it was best to only wind it on a particular day on the week.. like Sunday.
are there any specific dos and don’ts for hand wound movements??
i know it has been around for a long time.. but I figured it’s the first for me.. I better read up on it.
any tips and pointers from owners here?

I don't think there are any special "dos and don'ts" for a hand wound movement. To wind it only on a particular day does not make sense to me. Although we consider watches with mechanical movements to have a soul, they do not learn regularities such as your own kids.
What is true for all mechanical watches (handwound or automatic) is that the accuracy is best if your mainspring is fully wound. If your watch starts to get to the end of the power reserve, the torque of the barrel slowly reduces. This leads to a smaller amplitude and, in most cases, the watch starts to run faster. If you want an accurate watch I therefore suggest to keep the power reserve of your 8-days handwound watch within the top two or three days. That's what I do with my 5102 ;-).

It is such a great feeling to handwind a mechanical watch, that you will constantly look forward to the experience.
You can wind it just a bit every day or wait a few days and wind it more.

Just thought I'd post some pics of my current 8 Day BFI Limited Edition. The limited BFI edition with it's sunburst silver dial, with blue hands and numbers make for such a stunning contrast, and it's hard to see but it has an extremely dark blue Santoni strap. After owning several Rolexs I wanted something more unique and rare. Its a very discreet gentleman's watch in my opinion, but it manages to always somehow catch the eye and I receive a lot of compliments about it :)
