I have stated it was for high days rather than everyday or holidays and that It was in YG. I am my own man with conservative tastes and sometimes I like to do a bit of pot stirring and not follow the trend. The trend is big watches are in and smaller watches are not part of the current collection and everything is heading to be 40mm+. Well I wanted a watch for when big was not required and although that is covered by another brand I wanted an IWC and I spied this.

    Gilded 8541
    i1182.photobucket.com/albums/x456/GregChalk/DSC_4523.jpg

With factory strap and buckle, but getting a short strap for use
    i1182.photobucket.com/albums/x456/GregChalk/DSC_4530.jpg

And the front view at long last
    i1182.photobucket.com/albums/x456/GregChalk/DSC_4536.jpg

Now can anyone explain why the extract says 1988 and yet I understand the model was from 1994?

First off, congratulations! A great watch, and very underrated today. The last of the 8541s and the only one gold-plated.

But, second, I'm not sure why you think 1994 is the first date. It is in the 1988 catalog, as indicated in cellar's helpful index at

Thanks Michael, in fairness I used the Weeber machine when I should have trusted my namesake down under.

There are two editions of this watch. Prime difference being the dial ....one has roman numerals, the other Arabic. There is also a rarer model in 18ct White Gold which came in special presentation box complete with a range of spare parts in separate phials. I think they were a limited edition of 100 units. Perhaps that was from 1994?
A great addition to your collection .Congratulations

    Thank you for your comments.
@ Andrew, you're still the Master Tease, I'm only a student!
@ Ivan, are these or were these both part of your collection! Both YG and WG?

They certainly were. But as you know Greg we are only custodians of these fine timepieces. At least I have had the pleasure of owning them if only for a few years. But we move on.

    Happy New Year

Greg, this boads well! Can't wait to see this new "beauty" a and trust that you will post photos.

I say, ask the Misses to sit in the back seat armed with a camera and grab a "safe Nad shot" on the way back! Cannot wait to see the reveal ( As you know, I am also into the vintage and older models too).

And of course, wishing you a great 2012 with this good start, and lots of wearing the new watch in good health.

    Best regards
    Mark

Greg, posted from the iPhone and did not see you ahead already revealed!

    Wow! wow..wow!

That is indeed some special watch! And I don't need to tell you that it has one of the finest ever built mass produced automatic cabibres that has ever come out of Switzerland in it.

No way around it...So I will simply say it. I'm jealous!

Wear it in good health Greg.

    Best regards
    Mark

Thanks Mark, journey was really non photogenic what with traffic jams, contra flows and a very dull grey day, return journey started at dusk so flash whilst driving not a good idea even if my wife knew what she was doing with the camera, she's better with the video rather than my DSLR.
Discovered how my AD feels about buying an IWC from other sources even when it's from late 80s and private seller, I even went in to order two IWC straps and attitude was frosty.
