Yesterday, I placed an order for a new Spitfire Chronograph. This will be my first IWC and I am very excited. However, I was told by my AD that these watches are on back order and it will take approximately 3-6 months to get the watch! Has anyone experienced anything like this before?

    Congratulations!! It will be......

worth the wait. I'm waiting for a Big Pilot's Watch and have been
told to expect it around the end of the year.
Post some pictures when you get it.

    a high-class problem

    Hi A.J.,

I can understand the frustration with waiting and the need for patience, but it a problem for iWC because demand is hugely outstripping supply. IWC has become a hot brand (for many good reasons) and its watches are in short supply. If a dealer is out of stock for a given model, it is almost certain that the distributor doesn't have one either, and that means the watch has to be built. And production cycles have already been set --essentially the company's watchmakers are booked over a year in advance.

I know --I have a lot of connections and I've been waiting for a watch since January.

I hope yours arrives sooner than quoted.

    Regards,
    Michael

    Which spitfire?

I tried on two spitfire chronographs and the big pilot at my AD yesterday. They had the Spitfire double chrono in stock, as well as something I had previously not really seen - a spitfire double chronograph with the same dial and bracelet as the chronograph automatic. I wish I had checked the ref. no, now I'm really curious as to what it actually was that I tried on...

Short personal reflection: the double chrono was way too thick for me. My wrists are very skinny, about 16 cm, so the watches definitely looked disproportional in a very H.P. Lovecraft type of way. On the other hand, the big pilot made me look like I had just visited an S&M convention and simply forgot to take off one of the shackles when I left.

This is really a shame, the spitfire double chrono and the big pilot are both beautiful watches... I really should visit a gym.

/Jan, who is wondering why typing isn't considered a good wrist work-out

    Yes,

I understand. But like people say, "great things are worth waiting for". This will be my first IWC. I have read a lot about them and I am very excited. I will wait as long as it takes.

    Thank you,

    Aj

    Which spitfire?

I got the regular Spitfire Chrono with gray or silver dial and brown alligator strap. I think that fits my wrist a little better than the double chrono. I'll post some pics as soon as i get the timepiece.
