After opening the beautiful IWC Abu Dhabi boutique yesterday, SIDESTREAKER and me (including wives) were invited to the watch making class.

It was held at the wonderful Chairman's Suite of Etihad Towers with a great view towards Emirates Palace:

    The classroom area:

    "Our movement":

Christian, presenter and watch making teacher. He guided us perfectly through the delicate task of disassembling and reassembling our movements:

    The back of my movement:

A partially disassembled movement and its parts in the original swiss cheese tray:

And then of course, there it was - the masterpiece Portuguese Siderale - let alone its beautiful case. It is a work of art by itself:

Everyone enjoyed the course and the conversations around the table. The course definitely showed how delicate all those tiny parts are and what challenges are faced when assembling our time pieces.

Of course, we also tried out a few other watches downstairs at the boutique. SIDESTREAKER - it was great to meet you! I hope to see you soon.

Wow!!! Great experience. I missed the opportunity a couple of years ago when the class was offered in NYC. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you for sharing this wonderful event with us. I have also taken the IWC watchmaking class and it's really great! Unfortunately I haven't seen the Siderale yet, hopefully that is going to change some day.

    Kind regards,

    Clemens

That view looks to be from a movie set! I know you enjoyed that class, and now you can appreciate these wonderful mechanisms even more. Not just a pretty face.

Thanks again OB for posting up and sharing with everyone. It's was nice to meet you too!

I'll try to post up some of my pictures as well from the event. Christian is a great presenter and guided us well throughout the process of disassembling and bringing the calibre back to life. He's both entertaining and enlightening in giving us the background and the significance of IWC's quality and craftsmanship.

We are extremely grateful to be given the privilege to be part of this incredible experience.
