in this community. I think it is one those three :

    -Portuguese auto (my personnal choice)
-Big Pilot (ref.5002, 5004, whatever else)
    -Pilot Chrono (ref. 3717)

    Regards,
    Jean

If I had to vote, or to buy...

and I would not have any IWC, I would vote for/buy the Portuguese Automatic, probably the red gold version. But it is very difficult for me, I also like my Portuguese Perpetual Calendar a lot, and have a killing love affair with the other side of the complications spectrum, the VC Portuguese.

At the German forum the big winner of "the watch of the 2008 catalogue" contest was the Big Pilot.

    Kind regards,
    Paul, wearing VC Portuguese

    Stainless Portugese Chrono

I was just at the Las Vegas IWC Boutique at the Palazzo hotel an hour ago and that's what the salesman told me although I'm sure his observation is just his opinion and not based on any hard data.

On another note, I got to see the platinum Father and Son BP for the first time. They had a set on display but it wasn't for sale.

Those are my favourites too! :D

In The Netherlands, the Flieger Chrono is the best sold IWC. In Amsterdam the Portuguese Chrono is the best sold IWC.

    it's a best seller but...

...less so "in this community", which generally consists of avid enthusiasts.

Other especially strong sellers are the Ref. 5001 Porutguese Automatic, the Ref. 5004 Big Pilot's Watch and the Ref. 3717 Pilot's Chrono.

    Michael

Too Bad I Missed You Alan...

... I stayed at the Venetian from Thursday to Sunday (I just got home a little while ago) and I was hoping to see the St. Exupery Big Pilot watches at the IWC Boutique in the connecting Palazzo hotel but they weren't in yet.

Just about the only way I'll be able to get one here in the middle of the Pacific is by prepaying in full but I'd like to see one first (if possible).

IMHO, is between BP and Portugues 5001...

Other models are beautiful by the way but do not have this IWC purity look that I love.

I saw the BP St. Ex. at the CM

I am a sucker for red gold, and this version is great, but the others are too. The Saint Exupéry dial wins because of its size, which you only really notice when you see it in real life. You might like it a lot.

    Paul, wearing Portuguese Perpetual Calendar

    A popularity contest

here would probably involve anything with an ardoise dial (LOL).

In terms of watches - the Big Pilot is what seems to be the most photogenic and stirs only positive emotions.

In the real world - I see most Portuguese chrono Ref 3714 watches in Switzerland - there are so many to chose from and have been around longer than the current populars including the 3717, 5001, 5002, 5004 models.
