I have an IWC piece that I'm having difficulty finding a home for so I am reaching out where I can.

My goal is ultimately to sell it somewhere it would not be melted for gold. For whatever reason it does not sit well with me to have such a vintage piece be reduced to melt.

On that note, I am in Toronto Canada and have had great difficulty finding a buyer for it. I have reached out to auctions here who have replied that it is a piece that does not suit any of their current themed auctions and spoke with the IWC store in my city, where a salesman stated that I could potentilly trade it in if I were to visit the European or American international boutiques but there is no trade operation in Canada. I also cannot post it on Ebay as I do not have enough of a reputation of a seller on their (I've only ever used facebook marketplace) to sell anything over 1k value

The year of this piece is approx. 1890 - 1910, holding a working finger bridging movement caliber 65 ( believe this or the 69).

This piece is 14k yellow gold which from what I understand is an IWC watch specifically made for Americans as the european watches came in 18k gold.

It comes with the original albert - the albert is 17.6 grams of 14k yellow gold

the watch is 62.5 grams and also made of 14k yellow gold (approx 40 grams fot he watch is gold)

I have had two separate appraisals done by recommended watch makers in the Toronto area, appriasing the watch at $16,950 CAD, understanding that this is an appraisal designed for insured value and I would probably be looking for aournd half of the value in an actual sale.

I'm hoping someone here would be able to help me find a sale forum I am unaware of /  more avenue to find this watch to a home where it will be appreciate and avoid having to sell to someone for melt.

    Thank you,

According to the IWC database, you have a very nice Lép. Cal 73 - 17lig, H4 movement from 1921, housed in a gorgeous case dating from around 1923. Although we are not supposed to discuss pricing on this forum, I feel it will be very difficult to find a buyer at even a quarter of your estimated value. Unfortunately, gold melt value may be the highest value you will be able to attain for this beautiful piece right now, and to melt it down would be quite a shame. That case engraving really is quite special.

It will be a tough choice between highest value and a good, appreciative home.

There are some IWC collector groups on various social media platforms. That may be a way to find a good buyer.

    Hi Timekeeper1990

    Greetings from Toronto :o)

I agree with Ben. Sadly gold quantity in the case, does not equate to value in vintage watches. That said, it is a beautiful IWC watch with an amazing movement.

    I agree with MMBY!

Obtain a pocket watch dome like mine, and display it on your desk as a desk clock

unfortunately I'm selling for a family member who really needs the money. If the sale wasn't very much needed I would totally keep it

A pity to melt this beautiful piece.

If the watch is 62.5 g of weight, then probable half of it is the weight of the gold case. The movement is not gold. Subtract dial, hands, glass, etc. 14K makes it a max of 20g gold to melt. Melting gold doesn't have the same price as stamped gold bars.

That price in CAD of your watch makers is maybe at least 5 times higher than the market value. Unfortunately for sellers, fortunately for buyers.

I hope you find a loving home for this beauty but don't expect anything close to that estimate value there.
