I have stumbled upon this IWC "Calatrava" in platinum, Calibre 89, for 2000€. With tax and duty, it will be around 2400€. The seller describes it as "the case was polished in the past. The metal shows a yellow color between the lugs at 6 o'clock that seems to me like welding." Is this a serious issue or nothing to worry about?

    Hi Reziser,

in my opinion i would leave it.

The condition is not good, the strange „welding“ mark, the issue on the dial.

And far more concerning, the caseback. The watch has a low 5 digit case number, that does in no way match wit a Cal. 89. There is also no Probus Scafusia stamp in the caseback, which leads me to think that movement and case do not belong together.

ps, there i no such thing as a IWC Calatrava.  The Calatrava is a model family of a watch company in Geneva. This has nothing to do with a IWC Cal. 89

Thank you for a lot of information. I appreciate your opinion. I will try to search for something else. I know it is not a Calatrava, that's why I put it in quotes, but the case strongly resembles the Calatrava.

    Hi Reziser,

For vintage IWC watches of 50s to 70s platinum cases are exceptionaly rare. I am not sure if any at all are existing. Maybe somebody in the forum knows more.
