    Hi All,

As a proud new owner of an IWC Cal 89 dress watch ~1957, I realised these are almost always referred to by the infamous calibre inside, rather than a model name or reference number.

It's one of the only watches I know of with this quirk - where the movement outshines the model it powers. Does anybody know if the civilian dress watch containing the cal.89 ever had an actual model name or distinct references? Eg. Ingenieur, Portugieser, Portofino.. I saw an old advert for an early Ingenieur with "Ref 309a" mentioned.

I was wondering if the Cal 89 dress watches had similar references or model names.

    Cheers.

Intersting. It looks like quite a late model line.

From what I understand the 89 was first released in '48 in the 'pilots watch' - mark XI

But then the pellaton automatic movement and the ingenieur take the limelight and leave the Cal 89 being built into plain looking dress watches.
