I am looking at a 1960s iwc ref. 1550715 (picture 1)
Im a little curious about the crown. Then I look at similar models from that time I usually see the more narrow crown shown on picture 2.
But I have also come across more wider crowns like picture 3.
Though 1 and 3 are similar in witdh, the teeth on 3 looks bigger and with an angled grind close to the case.
Did IWC use different crowns, or are some of them later replacements?
Ps.
The print also appear a little different with "automatic" being more light on picture 1 and "international watch co" being a little more clumsy on 3. Though it is difficult to see when the pictures and not crisp :(
I wouldn’t judge it from the crown width alone. With watches of this age, crowns were often replaced during servicing, and there may also have been variations during production. The differences in the teeth and profile are probably more useful clues than the overall width. I’d also be a little more concerned about the dial printing you mentioned. If you’re considering buying it, I’d try to compare the crown and dial with confirmed examples from the same reference and production period before making a decision.
