Hello everyone,
I have two IWC pocket watches, both with movements stamped “C.972”, but they behave differently when setting the time.
- Photo 1: Pulling out the crown immediately stops the balance and the small seconds hand, without turning the crown. The calibre marking is underneath the balance.
- Photo 2: The balance and seconds hand continue running with the crown pulled out. The calibre marking is outside the balance area, closer to the edge of the mainplate.
The bridge layouts look very similar.
Were there documented versions of the C.972 with and without a stop-seconds mechanism? Could the different marking positions help identify production periods or variants? Alternatively, could the second movement have a missing or malfunctioning stop-seconds component?

Any information from factory documents, parts lists, or known original examples would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you!
