Does anyone know how IWC watches compare to brands such as Jaeger-LeCoultre, Vacheron Constantin and Blancpain? I am referring to issues such as accuracy in the measurement of time, long term reliability, strength?

IWC is tops but this post is violating Forum Rules
Sorry,

not sure how or which ones
The forum should discuss IWC, but comparisons don't violate any specific rule I would think. In all events, the moderator should have the job, unenviable as it sometimes might be, of "moderating", including dealing with such issues as rules.

They're all good watches
Hi Danilo,
They all can keep good time, at least within reasonable parameters. I have owned many examples of each brand you mention.
The problem is that these companies make many watches, at many different price points, and you can't easily compare them. There are many specific models, and it makes sense to look at them individually rather than generalize about a company. You can't "compare" an IWC Grand Complication to a JLC Squadra or Vacheron Patrimony.
I am a IWC guy, through and through, but that doesn't mean the other companies don't offer products that better serve a specific niche. Want a $40,000 tourbillon? Jaeger makes a great one and no other company competes. Want an ultra-thin, time-only watch? Vacheron makes a great one, too. Want an Equation of Time model? You can only get that from Blancpain.
But --dollar for dollar, model for model, I submit that IWC is a better buy. They are beautiful, durable, backed by a company with the best service record (at least among what you mention), and they understand better than all the others the importance of history. Still, I like all the other companies too.
IWC has integrity, in my view, and also the best customer relations --witness this forum. They offer a broader range of products than the others. But the primary fact is IWC makes great watches --and that should be enough.

Michael

IWC vs Jaeger Le Coultre et al.
1) Accuracy in the measurement of time: When you compare this criterion between different mechanical watch brands, you won't notice huge differences. Of course, a well regulated chronometer will perform a bit better than a bulk low-grade ETA, but there's no real difference between the well regulated ETA or Rolex chronometer and - say - a well regulated IWC or JLC. Example: My Omega Aqua Terra Co-axial is extremely accurate (also if compared between different positions).
2) Long term reliability: This criterion also depends on the availability of spare parts and the quality of service of the representative brand. You only mentioned high-grade watch brands, therefore long term reliability shouldn't be a problem. If you compare the individual watches regardless of service intervalls, the new IWC's workhorses (e. g. calibers 80xxx or 50xxx) or the new JLC autotractors (e. g. caliber 970) might be more durable than a more delicate VC or BP caliber (if you use the watches in rougher conditions - e. g. by doing sports etc.). But I might be wrong.
3) Strength: See point 2.
Just my 2 cents from what I know from other fora.

Excellent answer, not much I could add here. NT
IWC vs Jaeger Le Coultre et al.
Owning a UTC classic for 4 years and a JLC master moon for 2 years, my experience is that both are accurate reliable and strong.
In the long term I do expect less issues and costs maintaining the IWC (rebuild ETA with IWC module) than for the JLC (manufacture). Although I was more of IWC fan, I wanted a watch for business purposes preferably manufacture, which was and is not (yet) available from IWC in that price range ( the nice manufacture Portuguese models are more expensive and IMHO to large for formal occasions).
Therefore my personal experience is that the collections of these brands complement each other well (IWC as a more casual brand and JLC a more formal).
However if IWC will re-introduce a small Portuguese :-)
