I have some question regarding the serial number of my 3712. According to the IWC site, mine is IW371201, but this code corresponds to brown alligator (mine's black wich is supposedly IW371202). Do you know if this is some kind of mistake? Could it be that the original back could have been mistakenly changed at service time (I have no the papers with me)? Or the SN are printed at factory disregarding the color of the strap finally choosen?

The color of the strap says nothing. It can be changed in 2 minutes.
Yes, you are right. Just seemed strange that I don't have the number matching with my strap. Maybe, because of what you said, IWC doesn't care in the SN if the difference is only in the strap.

I am with Tilo, much more likely that the strap was changed than the caseback. Also, the original brown straps got darker as they aged. I have seen one of the brown straps described as black in a recent listing.
