Hello,
I have been handed down through my family a vintage IWC Pocket Watch. I´d be very interested if there are any members that could help me with the history of the timepiece and any details of the movement. I would also be interested to know its approximate value if that is possible.
DETAILS:
- Maker: International Watch Co., Schaffhausen — dial, movement and case all signed
- Case: Solid 18k yellow gold, approx. 47mm (excluding crown), hallmarked 18K / 0.750 with Swiss assay marks and the IWC "Probus Scafusia" medallion. Case number 808365. Plain polished back, never engraved — increasingly hard to find. Inner gold cuvette engraved "Chronomètre" and "International Watch Co."
- Weight: 56.12g total on digital scales
- Dial: White enamel with black Arabic numerals and subsidiary seconds at 6. Clean and bright with no chips; original blued-steel trefoil (clover) hands
- Movement: IWC manual-wind lever movement, serial 786411, dating the watch to the early 1920s. Nickel-finished bridges, jewelled throughout, fine regulator. Bright and unmolested — see photos
- Function: Winds, sets and runs perfectly, keeping good time
- Box: Original fitted presentation box from Bänziger of Zürich, the retailer — velvet and satin lined, in very good order
Condition
The case back has very light handling with no dents, no brassing, no over-polishing, and crisp hallmarks. Enamel dial free of hairlines to the naked eye. The movement is clean and appears free of amateur repair. The watch movement is perfect and runs to time.
