    Hi Everyone!

I've owned and traded many IWC pieces over the years, but nothing ever like
    this before.

It's a c.1940 "Disco Volante" (Flying Saucer) watch with unusual
    soldered/integrated lugs.

Fitted with Cal. 86 and housed in a 32mm stainless steel case.

I love the original copper-tone dial with the recessed sub-dial.

I'd love to gather some information on the watch including any original
catalogue depictions or perhaps examples of other similar pieces you may have
    in your collections.

A slightly better view of the movement.

The inside looks correct, but the movement is not in the best condition.

The markings inside the back cover are quite uncommon, hav never seen it up to
now.But it can be a producer of the case which was nit used too often by IWC.

It is an uncommon model, the fixing of the strap seems to be modified. Nothing
    more to tell about it.

It is a c.86 as you state.

    regards

    Hi!

Lovely to see another example of the Disco Volante.

I note your movement serial number also begins with "965XXX" which is the same
    as mine.
It appears likely that these were produced under the same batch by IWC.

The black dial with gilt application is very unsual and looks lovely.

Our watches are definitely from the same batch. The cases are only 44 apart.
These are the only two I've seen, and I wonder how many were produced.

I will write to Mr Seyffer and see if he has seen any other examples of this
    nature.

My guess is that perhaps only a few dozen may have been produced, based on the
very few examples that seem to have surfaced.

Given that the bezel arrangments are differing in such a closely-numbered
type...i would not be suprised if back in the day half a dozen slighty
different variants were first offered up to gauge where the market was with
such an avante garde style. Thanks for showing.

Only ever seen the one like this in Portugal.

Very nice piece - but the movement can sure do with a spa treatment by the
    Wizzards of Schaffhausen.

    Really nice dial too.

There was a variant with a double engine-cut trough in the bezel ( faux steps)
though it was a bigger size case.

As a curiosity. It has the hallmark of the Portuguese Assai Office on the
bezel between 9 and 10 to confirm the importation tax has been paid
