Dear IWC Collectors:
I am new to the forum and was unable to introduce myself under the original thread. I live in Dallas, Texas and am a fairly new watch enthusiast. I am 57 and have decided to ditch my Apple Watch in favor of an arriving FitBit Air so that I can get back to wearing mechanical watches while still tracking my daily health metrics.
I was wanting to get a vintage piece to add to my collection, but did not want to worry about a lot of maintenance costs. Additionally, my family is from Switzerland (roots are from Fahrni in the administrative distrct of Thun in the canton of Bern) with mother maiden name of Fahrney (changed to this US version when family emigrated from Switzerland). Thus I was drawn to learning more about the battle tested Cal. 89. Additionally, it was sad to learn of the U.S. mistaken bombing of Schaffhausen during WWII.
I came across this classic piece that the seller said was from 1959. Open to any thoughts around year of origin, anything worth noting as a collector and potential value if members of my family would ever choose to sell long after I am gone.
